Drive 45 minutes to Seljalandsfoss, Iceland's most unique waterfall. A narrow path leads behind the 60-meter cascade, offering the rare experience of walking behind a waterfall. The view back through the curtain of water toward the coast is magical. Bring waterproof gear—you will get soaked.

Drive 1.5 hours to Jökulsárlón, Iceland's most magical sight. This glacial lagoon is filled with icebergs calving from Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, floating serenely toward the ocean. The icebergs range from white to deep blue to black (volcanic ash), creating an ethereal scene. Seals often swim between the ice. The scale and beauty are overwhelming.

Geothermal wonders and Europe's most powerful waterfall

Dettifoss Waterfall
📍 Dettifoss Waterfall, Jökulsárgljúfur
Drive 1.5 hours north, then take the 25km gravel road (Route 862) to reach Dettifoss—Europe's most powerful waterfall. The Jökulsá á Fjöllum river plunges 45 meters with mind-boggling force, creating a thunderous roar heard from the parking area. The raw power and immense spray create a primal, overwhelming experience. This is nature at its most violent and magnificent.

Day 5
Whale watching and Iceland's northern capital

Have breakfast and prepare for the drive to Akureyri, Iceland's second-largest city. Today combines natural wonders with urban culture.
Goðafoss Waterfall
📍 Goðafoss Waterfall
Drive 45 minutes west to Goðafoss ("Waterfall of the Gods"), one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls. The Skjálfandafljót river cascades 12 meters over a 30-meter-wide horseshoe-shaped ledge. The name comes from the year 1000 when the lawspeaker threw his pagan idols into the falls after Iceland converted to Christianity. Both banks offer excellent views.

Day 6
Return south through Iceland's most diverse peninsula

Have an early breakfast and begin the long drive south and west. Today is your biggest driving day—about 5 hours total—but the scenery and stops make it worthwhile.
Drive Through North Iceland
📍 Akureyri to Borgarnes
Begin the scenic 3-hour drive south through the remote Skagafjörður region. The route follows valleys and crosses mountain passes with views of distant glaciers. This area is known for Icelandic horse breeding—you'll see herds grazing in fields.

Final soak and flight home

Blue Lagoon Visit

Drive to the Blue Lagoon for a final Icelandic experience (20 minutes from Keflavík or 45 minutes from Reykjavík). This world-famous geothermal spa features milky-blue silica-rich water heated naturally to 37-39°C. The lunar landscape of black lava surrounding the turquoise water is surreal. While touristy and expensive, it's an iconic experience worth doing once. Multiple pools, steam rooms, sauna, and a swim-up bar.
